Lucien Favre provided an update on injured full-backs Thomas Meunier and Raphael Guerreiro after Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat to FC Köln.
Raphael Guerreiro wasn’t part of the Borussia Dortmund squad for the Köln game after suffering a thigh injury during the mid-week win over Club Brugge in the Champions League. While Thomas Meunier had to be subbed off in the second half of the game on Saturday with what appeared to be a muscle injury.
Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre provided an update on the status of the injured full-backs after the game, but refused to confirm how long they will be out for. When asked about how long he expects Meunier to be out for, Favre said, “I don’t know. I still have to talk to the doctor. We’ll probably have to wait until tomorrow or the day after tomorrow before he can have an MRI. But I hope it’s not too bad.”
The BVB trainer was also asked whether Guerreiro could be ready in time to face Lazio on Wednesday, “At the moment I have no idea. It is too early to say anything,” Favre said.
Meunier and Guerreiro have both been regulars in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI this season. The Belgian international has started all 15 of Der BVB’s games in all competitions since joining the club on a free transfer from Paris St. Germain in the summer. While Guerreiro has made 11 appearances, and has one goal and four assists to his name.
If Meunier and Guerreiro aren’t available for the game against Lazio, Lucien Favre could use Mateu Morey and Felix Passlack as the two full-backs. Nico Schulz could also be an option, but he too missed the game against FC Köln after missing training during the week. Another option could be to play with a back three and have Thorgan Hazard as one of the wing-backs. Hazard slotted in at left wing-back after replacing the injured Meunier against Köln.
