Bundesliga Roundup: Borussia Dortmund drop points as Bayern and Leipzig win
With another weekend of football done, the table shifted around a bit after matchday 9 in the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund one of the teams dropping points.
Borussia Dortmund had a game to forget against FC Köln on Saturday, suffering a 2-1 defeat at home. Ellyes Skhiri scored a brace for the away side, notching two identical goals off corners. While Dortmund dominated possession and chances, they lacked the urgency and intent which cost them in the end. Thorgan Hazard scored the lone goal for Dortmund in the loss, and with it, they dropped down to 4th place.
Bayern Munich were put in a similar situation against VFB Stuttgart, going down 1-0 early on, but they were able to flick the switch and turn the game around. The game ended up being a 3-1 win for Bayern with Kingsley Coman, Robert Lewandowski and Douglas Costa scoring.
Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen kicked off the weekend playing out an eight goal thriller that saw Woflsburg collect three points with a 5-3 win. Bremen got on the score sheet first but Wolfsburg wouldn’t be denied, scoring three goals to round out the first half. This game had seven different goal scorers between the two sides, while Kevin Möhwald was sent off for Bremen.
RB Leipzig picked up a 2-1 win over Armenia Bielefeld that saw them leapfrog Dortmund into second place. Angelino and Christopher Nkunku scored the goals for Leipzig in the win.
Augsburg and Freiburg played out a quiet 1-1 game, with a second half goal each to keep things square. Ruben Vargas scored for Augsburg while Vincenzo Grifo scored for Freiburg. Although another draw, this one was a bit more exciting as Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt scored three goals each. Union Berlin scored two quick goals in the first 6 minutes before Andre Silva fired back with a first half brace in a 10 minute span. Max Kruse got a chance to play saviour, scoring an 82nd minute equaliser for Union after Bas Dost had given Eintracht the lead.

Borussia Monchengladbach thrashed Schalke 4-1 to keep them winless on the season. Schalke are now rooted to the bottom in the Bundesliga standings after Köln finally picked up a win against Dortmund. Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin played our a 0-0 game but it was enough for Peter Bosz’ side to pass Dortmund and climb to 3rd place. Wrapping up the weekend’s games2 was a 1-1 draw between Hoffenheim and Mainz with Robin Quaison and Ihlas Bebou scoring for their sides.
