Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has said that his foot injury does not look too bad, and he hopes to back on the pitch very soon.

Mats Hummels suffered a nasty looking foot injury during Borussia Dortmund’s 1-1 draw against Lazio, after feeling the full force of a challenge from Ciro Immobile on his foot. The Borussia Dortmund vice-captain had to be helped off the pitch and there were worries that he could be out for a while. But he has now given the all-clear after undergoing examinations at the hospital.

"“I just came out of the hospital, and it looks like it’s not too bad,” Hummels said on Instagram. “Looks like I could be fine in a couple of days. Of course we will take another look at it tomorrow and then we will see. But it looks like I’m going to be back on the pitch very, very soon.”"

Luckily, it looks like the 31 year old has avoided a serious injury, although it will still likely keep him out of Saturday’s tough away game against Eintracht Frankfurt. Dan-Axel Zagadou could come into the side in place of Hummels, although the Frenchman is himself just coming back from a three month injury lay-off, and hasn’t started a competitive game since March.

Hummels’ injury came just hours after Borussia Dortmund announced that Erling Haaland has suffered a torn muscle fibre. While Hummels expects to be back on the pitch soon, Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without star striker Erling Haaland at least until the end of the year. Lucien Favre confirmed before the game against Lazio on Wednesday that the free-scoring striker will be out until January.
