Gio Reyna’s second half equaliser helped Borussia Dortmund earn a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

With a number of key players missing through injuries, Lucien Favre named a much changed XI for the game against Eintracht Frankfurt, with Emre Can, Mahmoud Dahoud, Julian Brandt, Jadon Sancho, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Nico Schulz all coming into the team. Borussia Dortmund struggled to get going and lacked the intensity or tempo to cause Eintracht Frankfurt too many problems in the first half.

And the home side took full advantage by taking the lead in just the ninth minute through Daichi Kamada, who finished coolly past Roman Bürki after the Borussia Dortmund defence failed to pick his run out.

Jadon Sancho nearly issued the perfect response when he curled an effort just over the top corner from the edge of the box in the 20th minute. Just minutes later, the Englishman had what was arguably Borussia Dortmund’s best chance of the game. Gio Reyna skipped past Erik Durm, before finding Sancho, but his shot from close range ran wide of the post.

Both teams struggled to create too many clear cut opportunities after the Sancho miss, as a cagey first half fizzled out with Eintracht Frankfurt narrowly in front.

Lucien Favre decided to bring on Youssuofa Moukoko at half time, and Borussia Dortmund looked much more dangerous with the 16 year old on the pitch. And their equaliser came just ten minutes into the second half, thanks to Gio Reyna’s thumping strike. The USMNT international skipped past Martin Hinteregger before firing a thunderbolt into the top corner, leaving Kevin Trapp with no chance.

Following their equaliser, Borussia Dortmund played with more purpose and both Julian Brandt and Youssoufa Moukoko came close to finding the winner. But Eintracht Frankfurt held firm to ensure that the points were shared.
