Lucien Favre satisfied with Borussia Dortmund’s draw against Eintracht Frankfurt

Borussia Dortmund could only manage a 1-1 draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt, but head coach Lucien Favre was satisfied with the result.
Injuries forced Borussia Dortmund into making a number of changes for the game against Eintracht Frankfurt. And they certainly had an impact, as the Black and Yellows seemed to be lacking the usual intensity in their game going forward. Eintracht Frankfurt took the lead through Daichi Kamada early in the game, before Gio Reyna’s stunning effort in the second half helped Dortmund get a share of the points.
Lucien Favre was satisfied with the way his team played, especially in the second half, but added that something was missing in the performance to get the three points.
"“In the end, we can be satisfied,” Favre said. “We always want to win, but our first half was not good. The second half was much better, we could have won. We had much more intensity and movement. Something was lacking to get the win, but not a lot. I’m okay with one point. In Augsburg or against Cologne I would have been happy with one point. We can’t always win 3-0 or 4-0.”"
The Swiss tactician also spoke about having to re-jig his defence as a result of injuries to Raphael Guerreiro, Manuel Akanji and Thomas Meunier. Dan-Axel Zagadou and Nico Schulz both made their first starts of the season, while Mateu Morey made his second. Emre Can and Mats Hummels were also injury doubts going into the game, but ended up playing 90 minutes due to a lack of alternatives.
"“We were playing with a big risk today, two or three players played who hadn’t played for a long time. Zagadou, for example, didn’t play for six months, Nico Schulz hadn’t played for a long time. This morning Mats Hummels and Emre Can were uncertain until about 11 o’clock. There was a lot of risk, but it was necessary.”"
Emre Can felt that Borussia Dortmund did not play well in the first half, and said that they must keep on fighting as they look to stay in the title race.
"“In the end we could have won, but the 1-1 draw is okay. It wasn’t easy to play against Eintracht. But we must not complain now. We’ll go again next week and hopefully we’ll get three points.”"
The German international also spoke about Youssoufa Moukoko who came on before the start of the second half and played 45 minutes. The 16 year old showed a good account of himself, and Can said that everyone needs to be patient with him.
"“With Moukoko we all have to show a little patience. He’s only 16 and has to get used to the pace – but he’s extremely talented. We don’t have many strikers in the team if Haaland drops out. That’s why we need him.”"
Borussia Dortmund return to action on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League against Zenit St. Petersburg.
