Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko has set a new Champions League record, becoming the youngest player to ever play in the competition.

Youssoufa Moukoko became the youngest player to feature in a Bundesliga game last month against Hertha Berlin. Less than three weeks later, he has set another record, becoming the youngest player to feature in the UEFA Champions League at 16 years and 18 days. Moukoko has smashed the previous record, which was held by Céléstine Babayaro, who was 16 years and 87 days old when he first appeared in the competition for Anderlecht. That record had been held since November 23rd, 1994 and Moukoko’s will likely stand for quite a bit longer.

Moukoko came on to replace Felix Passlack at the hour mark on Tuesday and helped Borussia Dortmund earn a come from behind 2-1 win over Zenit St. Petersburg on his Champions League debut.

The highly rated striker has been training with the Borussia Dortmund first team since pre-season in August. Since turning 16 and becoming eligible to play for the senior team, Moukoko has already come off the bench three times in the Bundesliga. And now he has made history in the UEFA Champions League as well.

Moukoko has been progressively seeing more and more game time since becoming eligible to play and that will only continue to increase with Haaland currently out injured. Moukoko is definitely still a very raw talent but it’s easy to see the impact on Dortmund’s attacking play when they have a natural striker in the side. And Moukoko will now be targeting his first senior start ahead of the shortened winter break.
