Borussia Dortmund player ratings from embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund conceded five goals at home in a Bundesliga game for the first time in 11 years, as they were beaten 5-1 by Stuttgart.
Borussia Dortmund were outplayed and outfought by an excellent Stuttgart team that ran riot in the second half at the Westfalenstadion. Stuttgart took the lead mid-way through the first half after Emre Can fouled Mateo Klimowicz with a lunging tackle inside the box. Silas Wamangituka sent Roman Bürki the wrong way and slotted home the penalty.
Out of nowhere, Gio Reyna equalised for Borussia Dortmund in the 39th minute with a stunning touch and finish after getting on the end of Raphael Guerreiro’s long ball.
The second half was the stuff of nightmares for Borussia Dortmund, as Silas Wamangituka, Philipp Förster, Tanguy Coulibaly and Nicolas Gonzalez all scored to give Stuttgart a deserved 5-1 win. The Black and Yellows were made to look abject and toothless in both defence and attack by Stuttgart. And questions surely have to be asked about head coach Lucien Favre’s ability to turn things around after such a performance, and that too against a newly promoted team.
Here are our player ratings for the Borussia Dortmund players from the game.
Roman Bürki (6/10)
It could have been a lot worse for Dortmund without Bürki today. He made some fine saves to keep his team level going into the break. What followed after the break wasn’t his fault.
