The chances of Lucien Favre getting a contract extension have evaporated very quickly, and it is also possible that Borussia Dortmund could be forced to act sooner.

Following Borussia Dortmund’s 5-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart, Lucien Favre’s days as head coach of the team appear to be numbered. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Favre’s time at Borussia Dortmund will come to an end by the summer at the latest. It is now certain that the 63 year old will not be offered an extension when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The newspaper adds that the only question remaining now is if the BVB bosses will wait until the summer to part ways with Favre or if they will act sooner. Until now, the wish of those in charge has been to continue with the Swiss tactician until the end of the season. But if there are no signs of improvement in the final three games of the calendar year, they could be forced into making a change during the Christmas break.

It will be interesting to see if Borussia Dortmund decide to stick with Favre until the end of the season. Hans-Joachim Watzke refused to answer questions about Favre’s future after the defeat to Stuttgart on Saturday. While sporting director Michael Zorc left the stadium without speaking to the media.

RN note that Dortmund don’t usually like to sack coaches in the middle of the season, although they did part ways with Peter Bosz in December 2017 after a string of dismal results.
