Borussia Dortmund will find out their UEFA Champions League round of 16 opponents on Monday, with the draw set to be made at 12:00 CET/ 6:00 ET.
Having finished as one of the eight group winners, Borussia Dortmund can face one of the teams that qualified as runners-up in their respective groups. Since teams from the same nation or teams that played each other in the group stage cannot face each other in the round of 16, the Black and Yellows only have five potential opponents for the round of 16.
Atletico Madrid, FC Porto, Atalanta B.C., Sevilla and FC Barcelona are the five teams Borussia Dortmund could go up against in the Champions League round of 16.
Atletico Madrid finished second in Group A behind Bayern Munich, and are currently sitting at the top of the La Liga standings. FC Porto secured a second place finish in Group C, earning 13 points from six matches in the group stage.
Atalanta B.C. defeated Dutch champions Ajax on the final match-day of the group stage to secure their place in the round of 16. They finished behind Liverpool in their group on 11 points.
Sevilla cruised through to the round of 16, finishing a point behind Chelsea in Group E. The Spanish giants are the defending Europa League champions. Defeat to Juventus on the final match-day of the group stage saw FC Barcelona fall to second place in their group. The Catalans have been struggling in the league this season, but still managed to get 15 points during the group stage.
Borussia Dortmund finished top of Group F with 13 points to their name. They have been eliminated in the round of 16 in each of the last two seasons. And so they will no doubt be determined to make the quarter-finals this time around.
The first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 will take place on 16–17 & 23–24 February 2021, and the second leg will be held on 9–10 & 16–17 March 2021.
