Bundesliga Roundup: Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich return to winning ways
By Tushar Bahl
The first ‘English week’ of the Bundesliga season produced several entertaining clashes, and some not so enjoyable ones as Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich returned to winning ways.
Edin Terzic makes winning start at Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund began the Edin Terzic era with a 2-1 win away to Werder Bremen. The Black and Yellows took an early lead through Raphael Guerreiro, but Kevin Möhwald equalised for Bremen. Dortmund continued to dominate and were rewarded for their persistence in the 78th minute when Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka fouled Manuel Akanji inside the box.
Pavlenka saved Marco Reus’ penalty, but the rebound fell into the path of the Borussia Dortmund captain, who made it 2-1.
Bayer Leverkusen thump Köln to stay top
Bayer Leverkusen enjoyed a dominant 4-0 win to stay atop Bundesliga standings ahead of their clash against Bayern Munich. Goals from Mitchell Weiser and Moussa Diaby helped Peter Bosz’ side take a two goal lead in the opening ten minutes. Patrik Schick and Florian Wirtz then made sure of the win in the second half, as Leverkusen continued their red hot form.
