Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin
By Tushar Bahl
Roman Bürki (5/10)
Bürki’s ball distribution left a lot to be desired, but he did make a couple of decent saves in the game. He was visibly frustrated after letting in the two goals.
Thomas Meunier (4/10)
Meunier made a surprise return to the starting XI, but his performance showed that he simply isn’t ready yet. He looked very rusty and lost the ball 21 times, more than any other Dortmund player. He was also beaten at the near post for Union Berlin’s opening goal. He did make some good forward runs, but lacked the accuracy with his final pass.
Manuel Akanji (4/10)
Akanji had an evening to forget as he lost the ball time and time again in dangerous areas. Luckily for him, Union weren’t able to take advantage of his errors. He did make a few timely interceptions and tackles to stop some counter attacks. But it was still a game to forget for him.
Mats Hummels (5/10)
Hummels also made a few uncharacteristic errors, especially in his positioning early on. He saw the danger as the corner was played in before the winner, but he wasn’t able to get close to Friedrich in time to stop him. His forward passes weren’t always accurate either, but he did make some important last ditch tackles for his side.
Raphael Guerreiro (7/10)
Guerreiro was Borussia Dortmund’s creator-in-chief once again, playing four key passes to his teammates. He was involved in almost every dangerous move going forward, and set up the goal for Moukoko with a well weighted pass. He often seemed to forget his defensive duties, but he isn’t the reason Dortmund lost to Union Berlin.
