Wolfsburg beat in-form Stuttgart

Josip Brekalo’s 49th minute goal helped Wolfsburg beat VfB Stuttgart and break into the top four. Both sides created some decent half-chances in the first half, before Brekalo’s second half free-kick was deflected into the back of the net, giving Wolfsburg the lead. Silas Wamangituka and Nicolás González came close to equalising for Stuttgart, but the Wolves held on for a vital win that saw them move up to fourth place.

SC Freiburg cruise past sorry Hertha Berlin

Hertha Berlin’s below-average start to the season continued on Matchday 13, as they suffered a 4-1 win away to SC Freiburg. The hosts got off to a dream start and took the lead through Vincenzo Grifo in just the seventh minute.

Dodi Lukebakio equalised for Hertha Berlin, but their joy was short-lived as Ermin Demirovic restored Freiburg’s advantage. Manuel Gulde then powered home Freiburg’s third, before Nils Petersen put the icing on the cake with his stoppage time penalty.
