Borussia Dortmund head into the winter break for some much needed rest after finishing 2020 with a 2-0 win against Eintracht Braunschweig in the DFB Pokal.

Borussia Dortmund head into the winter break running on fumes after four months of having two games a week. After a really disappointing month of December that saw Lucien Favre let go and Edin Terzic promoted to interim manager, Dortmund will be eager to take some time off and reset ahead of the second half of the season.

It won’t be the usual full month off, it will actually be a significantly shorter break but it is still much needed for all the teams playing on multiple fronts right now.

It will be a very condensed winter break, with Borussia Dortmund only having December 23rd – January 2nd off before they are back underway in the Bundesliga with a home game against Wolfsburg on January 3rd. The Dortmund players will have 5 days off from December 23rd-28th before they return for COVID-19 testing and training.

There isn’t much time for Dortmund to get back to training before their game against Wolfsburg. Terzic hasn’t had much time to actually work with the squad in training since taking over with Dortmund playing twice a week. That isn’t going to be helped with the winter break either, with only a couple of training sessions before getting back to action.

Although there won’t be a lot of time Terzic will have the opportunity to drill down on some minor items and working on improving them.

Dortmund won’t have time to settle back into the Bundesliga with four of their first five games against Wolfsburg, Leipzig, Leverkusen and Gladbach. Those games will go a long way in determining their season outlook, they could either make up a lot of ground against the teams above them or fall significantly further behind.
