Emre Can has heaped praise on the Borussia Dortmund youngsters who have made a big impact in the first team this season.
Borussia Dortmund is considered to be one of the best clubs in Europe when it comes to developing youngsters. And it is easy to see why. Jude Bellingham, Gio Reyna and Youssoufa Moukoko have all established themselves in the first-team despite still being in their teens.
Bellingham is only 17 but has made an instant impact following his summer move from Birmingham City. Gio Reyna has also become a regular starter at the age of 18. While Youssoufa Moukoko became the Bundesliga’s youngest goalscorer earlier this month, less than one month after celebrating his 16th birthday.
With so many youngsters in the Borussia Dortmund ranks, Emre Can is one of the older players in the squad. Speaking to DAZN as part of the ‘BVB 09 – Stories who we are’ documentary, Can hailed the Dortmund youngsters.
"“If you look at Moukoko, for example, he’s 16 and if you see his quality in training its crazy. You see Bellingham, still 17 and Gio Reyna just turned 18. It’s crazy how young they are and how good they are. Its difficult to find another team in the world with so many talents of that quality.”"
Can also spoke about his role as a leader in the Borussia Dortmund squad and his desire to win matches.
"“I knew when I came that we have a very young team and my position would be a bit different here. I am still 26 but I am one of the older ones here in the team and that’s crazy sometimes. I want to be the player who can be louder and who can be a leader in the team. I want to win always and that’s why I want to always help my teammates.”"
The midfielder is one of the most vocal players at the club, and has slotted into the team seamlessly since his January move from Juventus. Such was his impact, that Borussia Dortmund decided to take up their option to buy him less than one month after his arrival.
The former Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen man has made 29 appearances so far for Borussia Dortmund, scoring three goals and providing two assists. But it is his versatility and courage that have made him such a vital player for the Black and Yellows.
