Borussia Dortmund are set to welcome Erling Haaland back into the side for this weekend’s Bundesliga clash against Wolfsburg.

Erling Haaland has been out of action since early December after suffering a torn muscle fibre injury in training ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League clash against Lazio. After completing his rehab in Qatar, the 20 year old is now back in training and closing in on his comeback. Michael Zorc has confirmed to BILD that Haaland’s recovery is complete and he will be in contention for this weekend’s clash against Wolfsburg.

"“The recovery has gone well. We assume Erling will be able to play again against Wolfsburg,” Zorc said."

Haaland’s return to the squad will be a big boost to Borussia Dortmund, who saw goals dry up in his absence. In the seven games without the Norwegian international, the Black and Yellows could only muster up three wins. And head coach Lucien Favre paid the price for the poor run, as he was sacked following the 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart earlier this month.

Haaland will need to find his form quickly, with Borussia Dortmund facing a tough run of fixtures in the coming weeks. Edin Terzic’s side will go up against the likes of VfL Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga in January.

Haaland is currently Borussia Dortmund’s top scorer with 17 goals to his name in just 14 appearances. No other player has found the net more than four times.

Borussia Dortmund are fifth in the Bundesliga standings heading into the new year. They find themselves eight points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, and cannot afford any slip-ups in January.
