Steffen Tigges has a realistic chance of becoming a first team squad member – Borussia Dortmund II sporting director Ingo Preuß
Steffen Tigges has a realistic chance of becoming a member of the first team squad permanently, Borussia Dortmund II sporting director Ingo Preuß has said.
Steffen Tigges made his professional debut for Borussia Dortmund earlier this month in the DFB Pokal win over Eintracht Braunschweig. Even though the striker wasn’t able to find the back of the net, his performance earned praise from head coach Edin Terzic.
Now Borussia Dortmund U23s sporting director Ingo Preuß has revealed to Reviersport that Tigges has a realistic chance of becoming a permanent member of the first team squad in the second half of this season.
Tigges has been linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund in recent months, with a number of 2. Bundesliga sides interested in signature. But Preuß said that he will not be leaving the club in the January transfer window. Tigges has scored 12 goals in 18 appearances for the U23s so far this season.
Preuß also revealed that the young Black and Yellows will look to sign a new striker in January to help with their promotion push. Enrico Maaßen’s side are currently second in the Regionalliga West standings, six points behind RW Essen, albeit with a game in hand.
Tigges’ chances will be helped by the fact that Erling Haaland and Youssoufa Moukoko are the only other strikers in the first team. With a packed schedule awaiting Borussia Dortmund in the second half of the season, Tigges could get another opportunity to impress if Haaland and Moukoko need a rest.
