Jadon Sancho scores first professional hat-trick

It is fair to say that Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga trip to SC Paderborn from last season was a game of two halves. The first was a cagey affair where both teams struggled to create chances. But the second half was a goal-fest as Borussia Dortmund hit their relegation threatened opponents for a six, with Jadon Sancho scoring a hat-trick.

Fresh off a damaging defeat to Bayern Munich in mid-week, Borussia Dortmund took all their frustrations out on Paderborn. Thorgan Hazard opened the scoring in the 54th minute, before Jadon Sancho made it 2-0 soon after.

Uwe Hünemeier pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute, but any thoughts of a nervy final 20 minutes were quashed very quickly, as Borussia Dortmund scored four times in the final 15 minutes to seal a 6-1 win. Jadon Sancho scored Dortmund’s third, before Achraf Hakimi and Marcel Schmelzer added gloss to the scoreline. Sancho then completed his first ever senior hat-trick in the 90th minute to seal a big win for his side.

What made the game even more special was Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi’s tribute to George Floyd, who was killed by police officers in the United States a few days before the game.
