Borussia Dortmund can imagine extending Marwin Hitz’ contract; goalkeeper’s plans still unclear
Borussia Dortmund would like to keep Marwin Hitz beyond the end of the season, but it remains to be seen if the goalkeeper would like to stay on as second choice.
Marwin Hitz has been Borussia Dortmund’s second choice goalkeeper since joining the club on a free transfer from FC Augsburg in 2018. He has made a total of 19 competitive appearances for the Black and Yellows over the last two and a half years, and has proven to be a dependable presence between the sticks whenever called upon.
Hitz’ contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and Kicker report that Borussia Dortmund could well imagine extending his stay at the Westfalenstadion. Michael Zorc told the magazine that the BVB bosses have already held initial talks with the goalkeeper. More discussions will take place in the coming weeks.
For Borussia Dortmund, Hitz is the ideal second-choice goalkeeper. The 33 year old is reliable and a team player. The club is said to have no reservations against offering him a new contract.
The magazine does add though that it remains to be seen whether what Hitz’ plans for the future are. He could be tempted to leave with the prospect of more playing time elsewhere. As he nears the end of his professional career, Hitz might want to play more frequently.
That is currently not possible at Borussia Dortmund, where Roman Bürki is the clear first-choice goalkeeper. The Black and Yellows signed Bürki to a two year contract extension earlier this year.
