Borussia Dortmund made their return to Bundesliga action with a win, beating Wolfsburg 2-0 thanks to goals from Manuel Akanji and Jadon Sancho.

The hard-fought win was a needed result for Borussia Dortmund. Edin Terzic’s side had won just one of their last five Bundesliga matches going into the game against Wolfsburg, and had lost their last three home games. But two second half goals saved them from making history for all the wrong reasons.

After a first half which could have seen either side take the lead, Borussia Dortmund took control in the second. Manuel Akanji broke the deadlock in the 66th minute from a Jadon Sancho corner. The Englishman then ran through on goal before finding the back of the net to put the game out of Wolfsburg’s reach.

The win helped Borussia Dortmund keep pace with the top two ahead of their clash against RB Leipzig next weekend. With Dortmund going into that game on a good note, we look at three takeaways from their 2-0 victory over Wolfsburg.
