Three takeaways from Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win over Wolfsburg

Winning run against Wolfsburg goes on
Ever since Wolfsburg beat Borussia Dortmund in the 2015 DFB Pokal final, the Black and Yellows have utterly dominated this matchup.
In the 11 league games since that final, Borussia Dortmund have won 10 and drawn one against the Wolves. They’ve outscored Wolfsburg 27-3, last conceding a goal in 2016. Dortmund have now kept eight clean sheets against Wolfsburg, equalling the record for most consecutive clean sheets over a single opponent (via Gracenote Live).
Borussia Dortmund were worthy of the three points, but the scoreline hardly begins to show how closely fought the game was. Wolfsburg had 21 shots over the 90 minutes, and it took a big defensive performance from Manuel Akanji and Mats Hummels to help Borussia Dortmund earn their first league clean sheet since October.
The most important thing against Wolfsburg was just getting three points. However, it is surprising to see the lack of parity in the matchup between the two teams over the years, considering Wolfsburg have been in and around the European places in four of the six seasons the run has been over.
