Borussia Dortmund to host SC Paderborn in the third round of the DFB Pokal
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund have been drawn against 2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn in the round of 16 of the DFB Pokal.
The draw for the third round of the DFB Pokal took place on Sunday, and it threw up some very interesting match-ups. Borussia Dortmund will host the recently relegated SC Paderborn as they continue their bid to reach the final in Berlin. The game is scheduled to be played on February 2/3, 2021.
Paderborn were relegated from the Bundesliga last season and currently find themselves in 12th place in the 2. Bundesliga standings. But as we have so often seen in the DFB Pokal, league standings don’t mean much when it comes to cup ties. And the Black and Yellows will have to be at their best to go through to the quarterfinals.
The last time these two sides met at the Westfalenstadion, Paderborn took a shock three goal lead, before a late comeback helped Borussia Dortmund earn a 3-3 draw. Dortmund blew Paderborn apart in the reverse fixture, winning 6-1 courtesy of a Jadon Sancho hat-trick.
Borussia Dortmund defeated Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0 in the second round of the DFB Pokal, while Paderborn earned a shock 3-2 win away to Union Berlin. Dortmund have been eliminated in the third round of the DFB Pokal in each of the last two seasons. But they will have their eyes set on making the final this time around.
