Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic does not expect Thorgan Hazard to return to action before February.

Thorgan Hazard suffered a muscle injury in the DFB Pokal second round clash against Eintracht Braunschweig last month and was ruled out for ‘several weeks’ by Borussia Dortmund. His injury came just minutes into his comeback from a previous muscle injury. It was a big blow for the Belgian international, who has had to endure a difficult struggle with injuries this season.

Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic confirmed during his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Mainz that Thorgan Hazard is on target to make his return to the pitch in February. Having Hazard back next month will be a boost for the Black and Yellows, with big games coming up in all three competitions.

"“Thorgan Hazard is completing his rehab program and is in Brackel every day,” Terzic said.  “But we’re assuming that he will not return to the pitch before February.”"

While Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without Thorgan Hazard until February, Jude Bellingham is in contention to make his return to the squad this weekend. The 17 year old has missed the last two games with a foot injury, but is set to be included in the squad against Mainz.

Edin Terzic also said during his press conference that the whole team will have to contribute to replace the injured Axel Witsel. The Belgian international had surgery on his torn achilles tendon earlier this week and will now be until for several months.

"“Unfortunately, as everyone knows, Axel Witsel will be out for the long term,” Terzic said. “We keep our fingers crossed that he will get fit again quickly. The whole team has a responsibility to replace Axel Witsel.”“Jude Bellingham has been training with the team again and is likely to return to the squad on Saturday.”"
