Borussia Dortmund were made to rue missed chances as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to bottom club Mainz 05.

Looking to keep their winning run going, Borussia Dortmund got off to a flying start against Mainz. Erling Haaland thought he had scored the opener in just the 2nd minute. But Thomas Meunier had strayed offside in the build-up and the goal was chalked off. The Black and Yellows continued to dominate proceedings in the first half, but Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner made some excellent saves to keep the game goalless going into the break.

Borussia Dortmund did not start the second half with the same intensity, and Mainz took full advantage with Levin Öztunalı scoring the opener from long range.

Edin Terzic brought Youssoufa Moukoko on as Borussia Dortmund pressed for an equaliser. And it was Thomas Meunier who struck home to make it 1-1. Meunier won a penalty moments after scoring, but Marco Reus fired wide from the resultant spot-kick.

The game ended 1-1 as Borussia Dortmund missed out on the opportunity to go up to third place in the Bundesliga standings. Here are our player ratings for the Borussia Dortmund players from the game.

Roman Bürki (5.5/10)

Bürki did not stand much of a chance with Öztunalı’s long range opener, but he was lucky that the woodwork prevented Mainz from inflicting further damage on his goal.
