Jeremy Toljan is set to complete a permanent transfer away from Borussia Dortmund in the summer for a fee of five million euros.
Jeremy Toljan joined Italian side U.S. Sassuolo on loan with a mandatory purchase clause in the summer. And according to BILD, that clause has already been activated after the full-back completed the required number of appearances at the end of last year. Borussia Dortmund will receive a transfer fee of five million euros for the former Germany U-21s international, in addition to a loan fee of 2.25 million euros.
Toljan joined Borussia Dortmund from TSG Hoffenheim in August 2017 but wasn’t able to become a regular starter for the team. He was limited to just 23 appearances for the Black and Yellows, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
He joined Celtic on loan in January 2019 but returned to Dortmund after failing to make an impact in Scotland. He then completed a temporary switch to US Sassuolo in July 2019. The loan spell was extended last summer, with a mandatory purchase clause of five million euros added into the contract. And that clause has now taken effect after he reached the minimum number of appearances required.
Toljan has been a regular for Sassuolo over the last 18 months, making 40 appearances across all competitions. The 26 year old has earned decent reviews for his performances in Italy.
Toljan’s contract with Borussia Dortmund is due to expire at the end of next season, but he will now be completing a permanent move to Sassuolo in the summer.
