Clubs in Italy and England are reportedly keen on signing Marwin Hitz, with the goalkeeper’s Borussia Dortmund contract set to expire at the end of the season. According to Sport1, several clubs in England and Italy have signalled an interest in signing the Swiss shot stopper on a free transfer this summer.
Borussia Dortmund are keen on handing Marwin Hitz a contract extension, but it remains to be seen what the goalkeeper’s plans are. Hitz is the Black and Yellows’ second choice goalkeeper behind Roman Bürki, and has made a total of seven appearances across all competitions so far this season.
Marwin Hitz changed agents last year ahead of Borussia Dortmund contract talks
Sport1 add that Hitz recently changed his agent, and is now being represented by former Bayern Munich player Andreas Ottl. His representatives are now exploring their options, and the goalkeeper will decide on his future soon. Further talks between Hitz and Borussia Dortmund are planned for early February.
Hitz is 33 and the next deal he signs will probably be his last big contract in professional football. And he may well be tempted to leave in search of regular first-team football. But the former Augsburg and Wolfsburg goalkeeper has no plans to return to the Swiss Super League just yet.
Hitz joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from FC Augsburg in 2018 and has been a reliable presence between the sticks whenever called upon. But right now, it remains to be seen whether he will stay on with Der BVB beyond the end of the season.
