Borussia Dortmund have handed new contracts to striker Steffen Tigges and U-19s head coach Mike Tullberg. Tigges has signed his first professional contract with the Black and Yellows after earning a first-team promotion last month. The 22 year old put pen to paper on a three and a half year contract, and will now hope to build on his impressive recent rise.

Injuries to Erling Haaland and Youssoufa Moukoko presented Tigges with a chance to make his first team debut in the DFB Pokal second round clash against Eintracht Braunschweig last month. He took his opportunity well, and has since made three more appearances for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

The towering striker’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but he has now received an extension. Michael Zorc heaped praise on the U-23s captain during the pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

"“For us, this was the logical consequence of his development over the last few months. He has developed extremely well. He embodies a type of striker that we did not have. He has many good qualities and is not yet at the end of his development.”"

Borussia Dortmund U-19s head coach Mike Tullberg also signs new three and a half year contract

Borussia Dortmund have also extended the contract of U-19s trainer Mike Tullberg, who will now stay with the club at least until the end of the 2023/24 season. The Dane joined the Black and Yellows as the head coach of the U-23s team in 2019, but was then given the U-19s job last summer.

Tullberg is rated very highly at Borussia Dortmund, and is in charge of coaching some of Europe’s most talented youngsters. Borussia Dortmund youth-team boss Lars Ricken praised Tullberg while announcing the extension.

"“Mike Tullberg values helping each player develop as an individual, while being ambitious to be as successful as possible with the team. I am very pleased that he has extended his contract.”“Mike, with his experience as a coach as well as a former player and with his communicative and honest manner, is an important factor in helping players achieve their dream of playing professional football.”"
