Borussia Dortmund’s slim title hopes were further dented on the final matchday of the hinrunde as they fell ten points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. While Schalke and Mainz both slipped to their 12th defeat of the season in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund fall to Bayer Leverkusen

A late goal from Florian Wirtz saw Borussia Dortmund suffer a 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. Needing a win to keep pace with the top two, the Black and Yellows fell behind early through Moussa Diaby’s opener. Julian Brandt equalised in the second half, but Wirtz made it 2-1 in the 80th minute to seal a vital win for his side. The win helped Peter Bosz’ side move three points clear of Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich edge past resilient Augsburg

Robert Lewandowski’s 13th minute goal was enough for Bayern Munich to beat Augsburg away from home. Augsburg had their fair share of chances, including one from the penalty spot in the second half. But Alfred Finnbogasson missed his 79th minute spot-kick to hand Bayern the win in the Bavarian derby.
