Borussia Dortmund slipped out of the top four on Friday night after suffering another humbling defeat- this time at the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach. Despite an Erling Haaland brace, the Black and Yellows conceded four goal to Marco Rose’s side.

It was the second tough away trip of the week for Edin Terzic’s men, first stumbling at Leverkusen on Tuesday night, where it took around 60 minutes to land any sort of punch on their host’s defence. And their latest defeat has seen them drop to seventh place in the league table.

Neither performance has shown the ingredients for a title challenge in the second half of the Bundesliga season. In both clashes, Borussia Dortmund have struggled to fire from the first whistle, and have found themselves chasing in key top four battles.

Borussia Mönchengladbach have displayed their credentials for an outside shot in recent weeks. They battled back from 2-0 away to Bayern Munich two weeks ago, and against Dortmund, demonstrated their ability to dominate initially, and again come back from behind.

For Dortmund, it’s right back to the drawing board, and Edin Terzic faces a daunting challenge with a spot in the top four now looking uncertain. Here are three takeaways from Borussia Dortmund’s 4-2 defeat to Gladbach.
