Three takeaways from Borussia Dortmund’s defeat to Mönchengladbach

Haaland and Sancho shine in defeat
Borussia Dortmund did display their potency in attack – mostly through Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland. Sancho rolled an angled pass to the left of the goal for Haaland, and the Norwegian dinked the finish expertly past Yann Sommer into the far corner to bring the Black and Yellows level out of nowhere.
Dortmund then found themselves 2-1 up despite a poor start to proceedings, with Haaland and Sancho heavily involved again. Intricate play between Sancho and Bellingham allowed Dortmund to penetrate the box, before the winger’s quick feet (against four onrushing defenders) moved the ball to Haaland, who stopped the ball with his right foot, turned brilliantly on the spot, and fired powerfully into the bottom left corner.
The brace took Haaland’s league tally for the season to 14 goals in just 13 appearances. Sancho has found his form again too, taking his assists tally to seven, not bad for someone who is struggling for form. Sancho did miss a glorious chance to restore Dortmund’s advantage late in the second half. Who knows how the game would have ended had the Englishman scored to make it 3-2.
The duo failed to provide the same spark in the second half, but that can also be attributed to the poor defending, which just allowed Gladbach to regain control again.
