The Borussia Dortmund first-team players will continue to forego 10% of their salaries until at least March to help the club deal with the financial losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The players have been waiving a part of their salaries since the pandemic began in March. And after talks with the club management, they have now agreed to continue to do so at least until fans can return to stadiums.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, this will help the club save more than one million euros per month. The basic salaries of the first-team squad add up to around 13 million euros a month. Those at the management level at BVB will also continue to forego a part of their salaries.

Borussia Dortmund have not had to put any employees on short-term work during the COVID-19 pandemic

Despite suffering losses of 43 million euros over the previous financial year, Borussia Dortmund have not had to put any of the club’s 900 employees on kurzarbeit (Germany’s short-time work benefit), unlike a lot of other Bundesliga clubs. The Black and Yellows are set to suffer even bigger financial losses in the current financial year, with every home game played without fans in the stadium costing the club around four million euros.

The players feel that they have an obligation to help the club out during this uncertain period, and they have shown a lot of understanding for the measures.
