Former Borussia Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa looks to be on the verge of signing for Greek side PAOK as a free agent.

Shinji Kagawa is reportedly about to sign with Greek side PAOK after a few months of testing the waters as a free agent. The Japanese international unfortunately hasn’t been able to recreate the magic he had with Borussia Dortmund when he has been away from the club.  Both the first time he left the club for Manchester United and then now later on in his career he just hasn’t been able to have the impact he’s wanted.

Kagawa was most recently playing with Real Zaragoza in the Spanish second division up until October of 2020 when his contract was terminated. Even in the Spanish second division, Kagawa didn’t quite light it up. In 2019/2020 Kagawa recorded 4 goals and 1 assist in 31 games with Real Zaragoza before not being brought back for this season. He has spent the past few months as a free agent on the lookout for a new club, with PAOK now his next destination. Joining the Greek side will give Kagawa a chance to compete for a title with a solid team in the league. PAOK haven’t had the best start to the season this year, currently sitting in 4th place. PAOK did finish runners up in 2019-2020 and top of the league in 2018-2019, so Kagawa will have a good opportunity with them.

There isn’t a Dortmund fan that won’t be pulling for Kagawa to make the most of his time in Greece. Regardless of how he left, Kagawa will always be a club legend with Dortmund.
