Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre attracting Marseille interest

Lucien Favre could make his return to management next season, with French side Olympique Marseille reportedly interested in appointing him as head coach. According to Téléfoot, Marseille are looking to replace Andre Villas-Boas at the end of the season, and the former Borussia Dortmund head coach is their top priority. The report adds that initial talks have already been held between Marseille and the Swiss tactician.
Olympique Marseille are currently sixth in the Ligue 1 standings, having lost each of their last three games. They also have Borussia Dortmund loanee Leonardo Balerdi in their roster.
Lucien Favre was sacked by Borussia Dortmund in December
Lucien Favre was sacked by Borussia Dortmund last month after a run of poor form in the Bundesliga saw them drop out of the title race. The 63 year old has experience of managing in the French Ligue 1, having previously spent two years in charge of OGC Nice.
Favre left Nice to take over at Borussia Dortmund before the start of the 2018/19 season. He guided the Black and Yellows to two second place finishes in the Bundesliga in his two full seasons in charge of the club. But he struggled to meet the high expectations this season. And the 5-1 defeat to promoted side VfB Stuttgart in December forced the BVB bosses into making the decision to sack him.
After parting ways with Favre, Borussia Dortmund appointed Edin Terzic (who was previously Favre’s assistant coach) as interim head coach until the end of the season. Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Marco Rose is the heavy favourite to take over at BVB next season.
