Borussia Dortmund team news: Thomas Meunier to miss next two games with knee injury
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without Thomas Meunier for their next two games, as the right-back has a knee injury. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Meunier has been struggling with knee problems since mid-December. And now he will have to spend some time on the sidelines.
The report adds that no structural damage has been found, so Meunier should not be out of action for too long. But he will definitely miss this weekend’s Bundesliga game against FC Augsburg, as well as Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal third round clash against SC Paderborn. After a break of one week, the BVB doctors will make a decision on whether or not Meunier can return to training.
Meunier has been a regular for Borussia Dortmund since joining on a free transfer from PSG in the summer. He has made a total of 21 appearances across all competitions so far, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
Mateu Morey the likeliest candidate to replace Thomas Meunier at right-back for Borussia Dortmund
In the absence of Thomas Meunier, Mateu Morey will likely start at right back for Borussia Dortmund. Morey started against Gladbach as well, and will be aiming to use the next two games as a chance to impress. Lukasz Piszczek and Felix Passlack are the other options available to Edin Terzic.
Meunier joins Axel Witsel, Thorgan Hazard, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Marcel Schmelzer on the Borussia Dortmund injury list. Zagadou and Hazard should be back in the next couple of weeks, but Witsel and Schmelzer are set to be out for the long term.
