Borussia Dortmund were pushed to the limits in extra time against Paderborn in the DFB Pokal and had a few key players pick up knocks. The Black and Yellows made it through to the quarter finals of the DFB Pokal on Tuesday, narrowly beating Paderborn, 3-2 in extra time. Emre Can, Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland were the goal scorers in the win, with two of them picking up knocks over the course of the game. Mateu Morey was the first, being forced to leave the game at halftime due to sickness.

Jadon Sancho, Emre Can given all-clear, Mats Hummels also set for return

Jadon Sancho was then forced off in the 116th minute due to cramps and he looked to be in some real discomfort. Emre Can didn’t leave the game but he also took a nasty spill in extra time in an aerial duel that certainly looked nasty. His knee bent awkwardly as he landed and he came down hard on his elbow as well. But luckily, he did not suffer an injury and carried on. Kicker are reporting that all three players got the all clear and should be fit for Freiburg this weekend.

Mats Hummels didn’t take part in the Paderborn game due to knee problems but Borussia Dortmund are confident that he will also be available to play on Saturday.

If Sancho did indeed avoid any serious injury and is available for Saturday, it will be a massive boost for Dortmund. While Freiburg did lose their last game against Wolfsburg, they have been in a solid run of form. Losing any player to injury, especially one as significant as Sancho, would have been a big blow with some big games coming up this month.
