Emre Can (5/10)

Playing in an unfamiliar right back role, Emre Can was involved in a very busy battle with Vincenzo Grifo and did not get too many chances to venture forward. But on the one occasion he did go forward, he hit the bar with a long range effort. Defensively, he had a tough time against the dangerous Grifo on the wing, but still gave as good as he got in the duels.

Manuel Akanji (4.5/10)

Akanji had a lot of trouble with Freiburg’s pressing early on and had a few sloppy moments in possession as a result. He did react really quickly, though, to ensure that Hitz’ first half parry did not lead to an early goal for Freiburg.

Mats Hummels (5/10)

Hummels was forced into an early clearance after a poor pass from Akanji. He had things covered defensively and kept Demirovic quiet for large periods of the game. But he also had trouble when trying to find the forward passes under pressure from the Freiburg forwards.

Raphael Guerreiro (5/10)

Guerreiro looked dangerous going forward in the first half. His aggressive play and intent led to a lot of half chances for Borussia Dortmund. But he wasn’t able to show that quality in the second half. The Portuguese international also forgot his defensive duties on a couple of occasions, and gave too much space for Schmid before the second goal.
