Thomas Delaney (4.5/10)

Delaney was asked to do a lot of defensive work early on. He got stuck in and worked hard for the team, but Freiburg still managed to find plenty of space in midfield. The Dane lost sight of Jeong before the opener and gave his way too much space to take his shot. He was then subbed off for Mahmoud Dahoud at the hour mark.

Julian Brandt (3.5/10)

Playing in the number eight role once again, Brandt struggled to make an impact on the game as his attempts to open the defence up didn’t really work. The German international made way too many bad passes and lost the ball cheaply on a number of occasions. He also left too many gaps in behind for Delaney to plug by himself. He was replaced by Jude Bellingham at half time, and his performance will not have made much of an impression on Joachim Löw, who was watching from the stands.
