Borussia Dortmund lost further ground to their top four rivals, as Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt all earned wins on matchday 20 of the Bundesliga. The Black and Yellows suffered a damaging 2-1 defeat away to SC Freiburg, with Jeong Woo-yeong and Jonathan Schmid scoring in the win. Youssoufa Moukoko pulled a goal back for BVB but it wasn’t enough to pull off a comeback.

Bayern Munich picked up a narrow 1-0 win away to Hertha Berlin to continue their excellent run of form. Kingsley Coman scored the opener in the 21st minute, and that was enough for the Bavarians to maintain their seven point lead at the top of the table.

RB Leipzig cruised to a 3-0 win over Schalke 04, with Nordi Mukiele, Marcel Sabitzer and Willi Orban all finding the net. The defeat means that the Royal Blues are now five points behind 17th placed Mainz, with relegation looking very likely for them.

Elvis Rexhbecaj’s brace ensured that FC Köln had the bragging rights in the Rhine derby against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Rexhbecaj opened the scoring in just the third minute, before Florian Neuhaus equalised for Gladbach. But the midfielder found the net again in the second half to secure a 2-1 win for the Billy Goats.

Bayer Leverkusen returned to winning ways with a 5-2 thrashing of VfB Stuttgart. Kerem Demirbay scored a first-half brace for Peter Bosz’ side, and Leon Bailey and Florian Wirtz also found the net, before Demarai Gray marked his debut with a goal to seal the win. Sasa
Kalajdžić scored twice in the second half for Stuttgart.

Wolfsburg made it four wins in a row with a 2-0 victory away to FC Augsburg. Wout Weghorst and Ridle Baku scored either side of half time to ensure that the Wolves stayed third in the league table.

Eintracht Frankfurt also continued their impressive run of form with a 3-1 win against TSG Hoffenheim. Filip Kostic gave the Eagles the lead, before Ihlas Bebou equalised for Hoffenheim. But Evan N’dicka and Andre Silva scored within two minutes of each other to ensure a fine win for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Mainz 05 boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation with a 1-0 win at home to Union Berlin. Moussa Niakhaté scored the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute, as the 05ers moved to within four points of Arminia Bielefeld, who had their game against Werder Bremen postponed due to bad weather conditions at the SchücoArena.
