Player Ratings: Borussia Dortmund held by Hoffenheim despite Haaland, Sancho goals
Thomas Delaney (5/10)
Delaney had a tough time against Hoffenheim and was often left as the lone Dortmund man trying to fend off their midfield. He couldn’t assert himself in the match nor establish Dortmund’s passing game. Eventually Edin Terzic opted for a more offensive approach after the hour mark, bringing on Mahmoud Dahoud in Delaney’s place.
Looking back at the game, Delaney will feel that he should have been closer to Rudy in the build-up to the equaliser, which would have allowed Akanji to cover Dabbur.
Jude Bellingham (5/10)
Bellingham returned to the starting XI alongside Thomas Delaney in midfield. He pressed high up the pitch with great energy and won several duels, including 10 in the opening 35 minutes. But despite his impressive recoveries, he also lost the ball too easily on a number of occasions. Bellingham was one of the subbed players when the situation turned sour in the second half. Nico Schulz took his place in the 71st minute.
