Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed that Marco Rose will become the new Borussia Dortmund head coach next season. Speaking to SID, the Borussia Dortmund CEO said that he is very happy with Marco Rose’s decision to join Borussia Dortmund, but they will not be commenting more on the matter until the end of the season out of respect for all parties.
"“We are very pleased that Marco Rose has decided to join Borussia Dortmund,” Watzke said. “He is currently the coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach, both clubs are in the middle of the season. Out of respect for everyone involved, we will not comment on this subject again until after the end of the season.”"
Marco Rose to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach for Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Marco Rose has been heavily linked with a move to the Signal Iduna Park in recent months, and was the BVB bosses preferred candidate to replace Lucien Favre as permanent head coach. Favre was sacked in December and replaced by Edin Terzic on an interim basis until the end of the season. But the idea was always to bring in Rose for the permanent role.
Rose has a release clause in his Gladbach contract, which will allow him to join Borussia Dortmund for a fee of five million euros in the summer. According to Kicker, the 44 year old will sign a three year contract with the Black and Yellows. He is expected to be joined by assistant coaches René Maric and Alexander Zickler, as well as Patrick Eibenberger. BVB also want to keep Edin Terzic at the club beyond the end of the season.
Rose will come up against his future employers next month, when Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund face off in the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal. The two teams are also locked in a battle for qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
