Marco Rose has made a decision on his future and will become the next permanent head coach of Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed. The Black and Yellows will activate the release clause in Rose’s contract and pay Gladbach a fee of five million euros for his signature.
"Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said in a statement, “Marco Rose has now decided that he wants to make use of a clause in his contract, which runs until June 2022, and move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer.”"
Borussia Dortmund to appoint Marco Rose as next head coach
Rose has been heavily linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in recent months, and was thought to be the club’s preferred candidate to take over from Lucien Favre, who was sacked in December. Assistant coach Edin Terzic was appointed on an interim basis until the end of the season, and he will be replaced by the former RB Salzburg head coach in the summer.
Rose joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2019 and led the club to a top four finish in his first season with the club. He also helped them qualify for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 earlier this season. The BVB bosses are said to have been impressed by the 44 year old’s ability to play attacking football and the speed at which he has transformed Gladbach.
Marco Rose’s big task in his first season will be to get the best out of a talented Borussia Dortmund squad and play attacking football. The Black and Yellows have fallen behind Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig this season, and Rose will no doubt look to help them become title contenders once again.
Rose will face his future employers next month in the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal, with Borussia Mönchengladbach set to host Borussia Dortmund on March 02. Both Gladbach and BVB are also locked in a battle to finish in the top four in the Bundesliga. The two teams are level on points at the moment, six points shy of fourth placed Wolfsburg.
