Marco Rose has said that the appeal of the challenge is what prompted him to decide on making the move to Borussia Dortmund. The 44 year old will be leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer to become the next permanent head coach of Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking for the first time since the news of his move broke, Rose said at a press conference:
"“It’s the challenge at Borussia Dortmund that appeals to me. At the end of the day it’s a decision that came from my gut feeling.”“I thought a lot about the decision. I had to make the decision either to go into my third year with a great club or to take on a new and exciting task in Dortmund. It wasn’t easy.”"
Rose’s decision to join Borussia Dortmund and the timing of the move has seen him face a lot of criticism from Gladbach supporters. But Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl has defended Rose, saying that his decision was made after weeks of intensive and transparent discussions.
"“Marco’s decision is something we discussed over the last weeks and months. Marco has made a decision that is completely in accordance with his contract. He didn’t do anything wrong. I am responsible for the contract. The talks were very frank, intensive and transparent. I hold him in high regard and know that he will give everything for the club.”"
Eberl also confirmed during the press conference that Gladbach have no intentions of parting ways with Rose before the end of the season.
Marco Rose rules out signing Gladbach players at Borussia Dortmund
Marco Rose, who will be joining Borussia Dortmund on a three year contract, also confirmed that he will not be looking to sign any players from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer. Gladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus, who has a release clause of 40 million euros in his contract, has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in recent weeks. Marcus Thuram is another Gladbach player who has been linked with BVB in the past.
"“I can rule that out. If Marco Rose says he won’t take any players to Borussia Dortmund, then he won’t take any players to Borussia Dortmund!”"
Assistant coaches Alexander Zickler, René Maric, as well as fitness coach Patrick Eibenberger will also be joining Marco Rose at Borussia Dortmund. The trio have worked with Rose at both RB Salzburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach. The BVB bosses also want Edin Terzic to stay on as part of Rose’s team.
