It was another record breaking evening in the UEFA Champions League for Erling Haaland, as his match-winning brace helped Borussia Dortmund take a 3-2 lead in their round of 16 tie with Sevilla. The Norwegian striker broke two UCL records with his two goal haul, as he continued his stunning goalscoring record in Europe’s premier club competition. Here we take a look at some of the facts and numbers from the game.

  • Fastest player to reach 18 CL goals: Erling Haaland scored his 17th and 18th goals in the UEFA Champions League in just his 13th appearance in the competition. The Borussia Dortmund striker became the fastest player to reach the 18 goal mark. No player in the history of the competition has scored more goals after 13 appearances.
  • Fastest to ten CL goals for a single team: Erling Haaland’s brace helped him reach double figures for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. It took him just seven games to reach ten goals for BVB. No player has ever reached that mark quicker for a single team. He beat the record previously held by former Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay.
  • A goal every 55 minutes: Erling Haaland guarantees goals in the Champions League. His 18 goals have come in just 990 minutes spent on the pitch. He averages a goal every 55 minutes in the competition. No player with 18 goals or more has a better goalscoring ratio in Champions League history.
  • Borussia Dortmund’s fourth highest CL goalscorer: Erling Haaland’s two goals on Wednesday helped him go level with Jan Koller as Borussia Dortmund’s fourth highest goalscorer in the Champions League. He is now just five goals shy of third placed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and a further two behind joint top-scorers Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski.
  • The end of a long wait: Mahmoud Dahoud scored his first ever goal in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. It marked the end of a long wait for a goal for the German international. His stunning long-range effort was his first goal for Borussia Dortmund in 906 days. The last time he found the net was on the opening day of the 2018/19 season against RB Leipzig (the first game of the Lucien Favre era).
