Borussia Dortmund player ratings vs Schalke: Haaland, Sancho star in dominant derby win
By Tushar Bahl
Mateu Morey (6.5/10)
Morey had another solid game defensively and led the way by winning five tackles for Borussia Dortmund. His ability to win the ball back also proved to be key before the first goal, as he regained possession high up the pitch, before Sancho calmly slotted the ball into back of the net. He did struggle at times with the ball at his feet, but overall it was a solid performance from the young Spaniard.
Emre Can (6/10)
Can was asked to fill in at centre-back this time due to an injury to Manuel Akanji. The German international was solid for last parts of the game, but also unnecessarily lost the ball while trying to charge forward on a few occasions. As always, he wasn’t afraid of lunging in or putting his body on the line for the team.
Mats Hummels (5.5/10)
Hummels wasn’t always at his best, but luckily for him Schalke did not pose much of a threat to the Dortmund goal. He did make a poor error in judgement in the second half to allow Hoppe to ease past him and have a shot on goal. But Hitz was there to deny the young Schalke striker.
Raphael Guerreiro (7.5/10)
Guerreiro showed his class with another impressive performance at left-back. He was heavily involved in Borussia Dortmund’s attacking play, and he caused Schalke all sorts of problems with his quick-feet and link up play. He then put the game beyond doubt by scoring Dortmund’s third goal in the second half after a lovely one-two with Marco Reus.
