Borussia Dortmund took on Schalke 04 in the 98th edition of the Revierderby on Saturday.  Die Schwarzgelben traveled to Gelsenkirchen seeking three points to make up ground on the Champions League places, while Schalke looked to get a result in their bid to stave off relegation.

The Revierderby is always one of the most anticipated fixtures on the German football calendar. It is a game filled with history and emotion that only select fixtures around the world can really match. The game is always billed to be an action packed affair and this edition of the bout between Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund did not disappoint, well, at least for those in Black and Yellow.

Coming off a hard fought and impressive win against Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund managed to drill four goals past their bitter rivals, a scoreline that had special significance as it put one more nail into Schalke’s almost certain relegation threatened coffin.

Winning this game not only secured Borussia Dortmund crucial points as they look to fight back into the Champions League places, but earned them local bragging rights for the foreseeable future, as this was likely the last Revierderby to take place in the Bundesliga for some time, as the league comes ever closer to bidding farewell to Schalke. Let us take a look at some of the key talking points from this special and pivotal match up.
