Roman Bürki is no longer the clear first-choice goalkeeper at Borussia Dortmund, with Marwin Hitz set to keep his place in goal for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Arminia Bielefeld. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Hitz will continue to start between the sticks if delivers consistently solid performances.

The 33 year old, who signed a two-year contract extension earlier this week, is said to be ahead of his compatriot in the pecking order for head coach Edin Terzic.

Ruhr Nachrichten add that Borussia Dortmund are probing the market for a new goalkeeper. While a final decision has not yet been made by those in charge, it is quite possible that a new short-stopper will arrive in the summer transfer window.

The Black and Yellows have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent weeks, including Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha, RB Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi, SL Benfica’s Odysseas Vlachodimos, Fiorentina’s Bartłomiej Drągowski and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.

Bürki, who only signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund last June, now faces an uncertain future at the club. The 30 year old has two and a half years remaining on his current contract, but it is highly likely that he will have to leave if a new goalkeeper arrives in the summer.

Bürki has made a total of 20 appearances across all competitions so far this season, but has missed the last six games with a shoulder injury. He is now fully fit once again, but will have to make do with a place on the bench this weekend.
