Borussia Dortmund do not expect Erling Haaland to leave the club this summer, despite heavy interest in his signature.
Several big clubs in Europe are said to be interested in signing Haaland, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United. But Sebastian Kehl is confident that the Norwegian international will stay in Dortmund beyond the summer transfer window. Speaking to SportBILD, the BVB head of players’ department said:
"“Borussia Dortmund remains the right club for him, his path here is not over yet. We expect him to stay beyond the summer and become an even better player for us.”"
There has also been a lot of talk about the release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract with Borussia Dortmund. SportBILD claim that his release clause is around 100 million euros (and not the widely reported 75 million euros). The clause also does not come into effect until the end of the 2021/22 season.
SportBILD also add that only six clubs have a chance of signing Haaland, with the striker wanting to join an absolute top club when he leaves Borussia Dortmund.
Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are the six clubs reportedly in the race for Haaland. Bayern Munich are not expected to pursue a move for the 20 year old.
Haaland has been scoring goals for fun since moving to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, and has found the net 43 times in just 45 appearances for the club. The striker still has more than three years left on his contract with the Black and Yellows, and has said on numerous occasions that he is happy at the club. And unless things somehow go horribly wrong between now and the end of the season, it is highly unlikely that he will leave in the summer.
