Borussia Dortmund: Jadon Sancho and Raphael Guerreiro injury doubts for Bayern Munich trip

Borussia Dortmund are sweating on the fitness of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Guerreiro ahead of this weekend’s crunch clash against Bayern Munich. Both players were subbed off with muscle injuries during Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal clash quarter-final against Borussia Mönchengladbach, and now face a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s Der Klassiker.
Head coach Edin Terzic gave an update on the fitness of the duo during Thursday’s pre-match press conference.
"“Both came off the field injured, but we still have to wait and see. It could be tight for both of them, but we’re not giving up hope that they will fly to Munich with us tomorrow.”"
Not having Jadon Sancho and Raphael Guerreiro available for the game against Bayern Munich would be a big blow for Borussia Dortmund. Sancho and Guerreiro are two of the Black and Yellows’ most dangerous players going forward.
Sancho has eight goals and seven assists to his name since the turn of the year, and scored the winner against Gladbach on Tuesday. While Guerreiro has four goals and nine assists from left-back this season.
If Sancho and Guerreiro aren’t fit to start on Saturday, Thorgan Hazard and Nico Schulz will likely come into the starting XI. Schulz came on to replace Guerreiro on Tuesday, and delivered an encouraging performance. While Hazard replaced Sancho for the final 20 minutes.
In slightly better news, Edin Terzic also confirmed that Manuel Akanji is back in individual training after suffering a torn muscle fibre in his thigh last month. However, Saturday’s game comes too soon for the Swiss centre-back.
Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to build on their current winning run as they go up against Bayern Munich this weekend. BVB haven’t beaten Bayern away in the Bundesliga since 2014, and they will be desperate to change that this weekend.
