Erling Haaland brace sends Borussia Dortmund through to the Champions League quarterfinals

Erling Haaland scored yet another brace to help Borussia Dortmund see off the challenge of Sevilla and qualify for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
Borussia Dortmund went into the second leg with a 3-2 aggregate lead, having won the first leg in Spain last month. Sevilla began the game brightly and played with great urgency, keeping the hosts penned in for the majority of the first half. Edin Terzic’s side were happy to sit deep and looked to hurt Sevilla on the counter.
Haaland thought he had doubled Dortmund’s lead just ten minutes into the second half after an excellent run which saw him bulldoze his way past Diego Carlos. But after a lengthy VAR check, the referee ruled the goal out for a foul, instead giving Dortmund a penalty for a foul in the build-up to the goal. Haaland stepped up to take the spot-kick, but Yassine Bounou brilliantly saved his penalty and follow-up effort.
However, another VAR check ensued and it was adjudged that Bounou had come off his line early. Haaland stepped up once again, and made no mistake this time around. The penalty helped the Norwegian international reach the 20 goal mark in the UEFA Champions League in just his 14th appearance in the competition.
Sevilla were offered a route back into the game after Emre Can shoved Luuk De Jong inside the box. Youssef En-Nesyri thumped home his penalty in the 68th minute to leave the Spanish side just two goals away from forcing extra time.
Borussia Dortmund defended with great resolve in the closing stages of the game and managed to hang on for the 5-4 aggregate win even though En-Nesyri made it 2-2 on the night in the 95th minute.
