Borussia Dortmund sealed their place in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League after earning a 2-2 draw against Sevilla in the second leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday evening.

Head coach Edin Terzic was delighted with the fight his side showed to see off the challenge of Sevilla and qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition for the first time since the 2016/17 season.

"Speaking to Sky after the game, Terzic said: “It feels really cool. It has not been a matter of course for us to get this far in recent years. Now to be among the best eight in Europe makes us extremely happy.”“I’m grateful to each and every one of the players. And more importantly I’m extremely proud of the performance we showed. These are the knockout games, there are no more rules at the end. The only rule is to get through. We managed to do that and we’re really happy about it.”"

Terzic also heaped praise on Erling Haaland after the striker scored a brace to help Borussia Dortmund take a two goal lead before the late Sevilla comeback. The 20 year old has now scored ten goals in just six appearances in the Champions League this season, and has scored at least twice in each of his last four matches in the competition.

"“He is outstanding,” Terzic said. “We’re glad we were able to get him two more Champions League games this season so he can keep scoring.”"

“I scored when he didn’t cheat” – Erling Haaland on altercation with Sevilla goalkeeper

Erling Haaland also spoke after the game and even commented on his altercation with Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the second half. “It was a hard game,” Haaland said. “Now I am tired but reaching the next round feels very good.”

Haaland thought he had doubled Borussia Dortmund’s advantage early in the first half, only for the referee to rule the goal out and hand BVB a penalty for a foul which took place a minute before the goal. Bounou saved Haaland’s initial penalty and taunted him, but the penalty had to be retaken as the goalkeeper had stepped off his line too early. Haaland then scored on the second attempt and taunted Bounou back.

"“First of all, it was a nice goal before but then it was penalty and then I missed and then he cheated and I took it again and then I scored when he didn’t cheat,” Haaland said. “It was exactly the same but then he stood on the line and for the first he didn’t stand on the line.”“To be honest, I was nervous a little bit for the second one, but after he was screaming in my face after the first one, I was thinking it would be even better to score another goal. That’s what happened, so it was nice.”“I don’t know what it means. But I said what he said after I missed the first one. Maybe it’s karma in this world. I think so after this.”"
