Sebastian Kehl expects Marco Reus and Mats Hummels to be available vs Köln next week

Three Borussia Dortmund players had to be subbed off with injuries during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin. Mats Hummels left the pitch with a knee injury at the half hour mark, and was replaced by Dan-Axel Zagadou. Marco Reus was then on the receiving end of a nasty tackle from behind, which saw Vladimír Darida receive a red card. The Borussia Dortmund captain got back on his feet and continued for a few minutes, but had to be replaced soon after. While Mateu Morey was substituted due to calf problems.
Edin Terzic said after the game that Marco Reus was optimistic his injury isn’t too serious. The Borussia Dortmund head coach also added that he does not expect Mats Hummels’ injury to be a long term one.
"“Marco Reus was on the end of a nasty tackle, but he seemed very optimistic that it’s not that bad. So I’m hopeful. We will of course try again today and tomorrow to get a more precise diagnosis. Mats has been feeling his knee for a few weeks now. Today he couldn’t continue. We will now wait for a more precise diagnosis, but I’m confident that it will not be a long-term injury.”"
Now Sebastian Kehl has confirmed that both Reus and Hummels will be back in training next week, and should be able to play against FC Köln next weekend.
"“They were lucky that it’s not that bad. I expect both of them to be able to return to training during the week and play in Köln,” Kehl told BILD on Sunday."
Borussia Dortmund were already without Jadon Sancho, Raphael Guerreiro, Manuel Akanji, Axel Witsel and Marcel Schmelzer for the game against Hertha Berlin.
But they still managed to get the job done against the Berliners, as second half goals from Julian Brandt and Youssoufa Moukoko sealed a 2-0 win. Sancho is not expected to be back until next month, but there is hope that Akanji and Guerreiro will be available again next weekend.
The Borussia Dortmund players now have two days off to recuperate before turning their attentions to next weekend’s Bundesliga clash against FC Köln. With only nine games to go until the end of the season, the Black and Yellows will know that they cannot afford to drop too many points if they want to play Champions League football next season.
